It's felt weird to have a garage without a project since finishing the 500. Our old friend Paul really likes the idea of 'modernising' his 350. Something along the lines of another 'Minter Blue' jobbie, so I volunteered to do it for him. If I leave it to him, we'd never get to Spain in July.
So the standard bike (One of Moose's ex's) found it's way into the garage complete with a bad vibration (suspect clutch), missing mounting bolts and last year's check points still scratched into the tank.
So far I've started the strip down while Paul starts writing his shopping list. Here we go.....

Well, that's the easy bit done. I'm now waiting for Paul to decide on his colour scheme. Sorry Minter, I don't think he's a good enough rider to cope with a blue one. Opinion so far is leaning towards a red frame and silver swinging arm, but it's his decision.

a bit more time over the weekend and we've made a bit more progress. The engine is being spirited away for Minter to wave his magic wand over it. All parts are now stripped and piled up ready for the powder coaters.

I called up the road to have a look at the projects forks to confirm what I had decided to be how the damper need to be assembled. Quite interesting assembly in the project... No spacer but a section of spring cut to the required length!
It was good to get out, the cold was beginning to get to the hand (hadn't figured about scraping ice off the car) but a coffee call was perfect timing.

Thumb twiddling again already. Engine's on it's way south. Frame & bits at the powder coaters.
Paul has decided on the colour scheme and parts changes and I must say it should look quite good:
Red frame and plastics (honda CRF - ish). Silver swinging arm, polished fork bottoms and yokes. Also the engine will be soda blasted back to a silver finish. Stainless steel exhaust and something like a Leo Vince silencer.
If anyone has any ideas for wavy brake discs I'd like to know.
Fortunately, Paul's idea for gold trimmings is now reduced to just rear sprocket and chain - if we can get hold of a sprocket that colour.
I think I'll end up painting the tank and side panels in red (if it matters, probably RAL3020 vehrkesrot which is very bright and clean, similar to the Honda plastics).
Is it possible to buy plain side panels to lose the Harley Davidson script? If not I'll probably have a go at them myself then cover the scar with a badge.
Finally. Controversially. The seat is to be recovered in an oatmeal/beige colour to compliment the red. colourwise I'm sure it will be striking and distinctive - but hardly macho for the MT..... maybe it appeals to his feminine side ???

Just one thing if you blast the engine and then leave it bare it isn't going to stay silver for very long, unless it's only ridden on the one sunny dry day we get a year.
