North wales bike prep.

Post by Drifter » Tue Aug 07, 2012 5:36 pm

Hi guys

Ive been riding for more years than I care to mention but all of it has been on tarmac. Rode offroad as a spotty youth. Didnt care if the bike broke I would push it home. Can you please give me some advice on preping the bike im sure Im not the only one thinking this.

What should I be carrying in the way of tools and spares when riding off road ?

What other prep should I do to the bike beforehand ?

I know I dont need a long stand or a flux capacitor please advise.

Chris :):?::?:

Because you will be riding in groups of similar bikes
Don't worry too much about spares.
As for preparing your bike all I can say on that is check your
Bike over with a fine tooth comb
If its loose tighten it ,
If it looks dodgy change it ,
Because it will break.
On a 350 change your brake fluid as the rear brake will boil
On down hill sections.

G'day Chris,

Make sure things like the coil and plug cap are water tight, its bound to be wet! Make sure youve got tyre clamps front and rear as you'll be letting tyres down a bit for better traction off road - without the clamps the tyre is likely to creep ripping off the valve. Make sure youve plenty of meat on your brake pads. Make sure chain and split link is in good order and well lubed and carry a spare split link - weakest part of any chain! Check carb rubbers are hole free and secure along with all the other nuts and bolts! Enjoy! I can do pre start checks/tyre changing friday evening if anyone wants....
