I have sent some photos to Morpheus for uploading.

The first batch where the riders are wearing orange tabbards are from a 1988 Motorcycle Instructors course at the Army School of Mech Transport at Leconsfield. The photos are all over the north including Grimsby (I can still smell the fish!)

The second off road batch are from a learners course I ran in 1989 at Ripon North Yorks.
The students rode Can Ams or MT 500's. This was the off road stage. Some had only been riding for three weeks at this stage and were all atill learners.

The photos are at a training area called Ellington Banks, Ripon.

The last photo is taken in the MT hanger at 51 Fd Sqn, RE Ripon, the two sprogs tied to the trailer racks have been painted in Corps Colours as a welcome to MT Troop. There are a couple of MT's in teh foreground.

These photos show the issued two piece black barbour outfit issued to dispatch riders. The green open faced Cromwell helmets had a wrap around visor which attached with three press studs onto the helmet.

Boots were normally normal issue Combat High boots, although there were calf length DR boots abvailable.

Gloves were either 'yellow leather' gauntlets or black issue Northern Ireland gloves.

Fantastic pics :D
Reminds me of my time in the Engineers. My initiation was being hung on the back of a tank and being greased up.
It stopped me squeaking but i had to throw my cloths in the bin.
We had a few can-ams in our unit but no MTs.
Are those Nortons the ones with a rotary engine ?

Were we at Munsterlager by any chance?

Yes, they were Norton Interpols with the Wankel Rotary engine. The instructors at Leconsfield used them because they wanted something faster than the 'instructor' students. They also wanted to look like Police Bikes I think!

It was a cracking course, 4 weeks of blatting around North England on Armstrongs in between lesson planning and off roading. Once qualified I spent 6 months doing nothing but courses back at Ripon. Surprising how popular you become with Officers who can't get to grips with the part 1 test on a 500 (the old part 1). The figure of 8 cones were a laugh!
