Re: 640 rebuild
Sorry to hear of your continuing problems Pete. I really feel for you, as I'm sure will many others when they read your latest. Hang in there mate.

Really sorry Pete. It's so disheartening when you've done everything you can to do a job properly and then something like this happens.

Re: 640 rebuild
I really feel for you here Pete, that's the last thing you want after an expensive rebuild.
I was shocked by how much bleeding the oil system can require and think it may have been the cause of some of the issues I've had with my engine. Now, when I reinstall an engine, I do the following:
- Undo the plug in the oil filter cover
- Remove the breather hose from the rocker cover
- Whack the airline on the breather hose and keep the oil tank nicely pressurised (my compressor will stuff far more air in than leaks around the filler cap)
- Pull the decomp and keep kicking the engine over until a steady flow comes out of the filter cover.
This often takes far longer than you'd expect but once the oil is coming out, you can be sure that the pump is primed properly.

Re: 640 rebuild
I've tried what Mr. Kay said, except that I set the bike on the center stand, engage fifth gear and i keep turning the wheel until oil flows out (which is the same procedure)
Its good to hear that no damage has occurred to the bottom end.
You really have a lot of patience. I would've probably thrown the whole bike off a cliff for much less (I would eventually go down and bring it back and rebuild it) but it just sucks sometimes.
Anyway, I hope everything else goes well.
And thanks for the tips...

Re: 640 rebuild
Malcolm at Sportax always says to dump a litre of oil in the clutch case too, I do this.

Re: 640 rebuild
That's not going to prime the pump though. It'll drop straight into the sump then the scavenge pump will send it back to the tank.Bunker wrote:Malcolm at Sportax always says to dump a litre of oil in the clutch case too, I do this.
