pilot hole first ,under where hinge will be ,then jigsaw with a blade for metal , cut only where the hinge will go first ,then mark out drill holes for hinge ,drill ,[easier while all in one pice ] carry thegary999 wrote:Sorry, another question. How did you cut the jerrycan to make the lid ?

Hi,purge the jerrycan first especially if it has contained petrol at any time then to be on the safe side run water through it for a while before using any process where extreme heat could be involved.
Worked with a guy who injured himself quite badly when he was making barbeques using a 52 gallon oil drum and it exploded whilst he was cutting it in half,a few fumes are all it takes, Sorry to go all health and safety on you and state the obvious but i wouldnt like to see anyone on here get hurt.
