Looking great, and it's prompting me to get on with my 604 into 350 transplant.

I've got an (allegedly) good engine, so I'm going to clean it and paint it black before fitting it. If it doesn't run well and needs to come out again, it will be less of a faff than fitting it unpainted, getting it running nicely and then having to pull it out again to paint it.

I just need to decide on an exhaust system. the 350 has the original system, with a good silencer and rotting pipes. I'm considering a set of stainless pipes and keeping the standard silencer for now (cost reasons!) Will the 604 be 'strangled' with a standard silencer?

Its not ideal, but they will run quite happily, you need to de-restrict the tail pipe as much as poss.
Shove a spiked metal rod down the tail pipe and punch through the baffle barrier. If you can then put a small right hand bend on the spike it is possible to hole the baffle and create a free flow tail pipe.

Thanks Franc. That sounds like my level of 'engineering' and it will do until I can afford a new stainless silencer.

Hi Grandad ;),

Spins over not too bad if a little slow. Luckily on the odd occasion it's started it fired up first spin of the motor. I'm so damn close now it hurts.

I'll be in for a brew at some point, don't you worry about that........

Well impressed.
Looks so sweat.
All that effort is clearly justified.
All the best
