Horsebridge and Greyston Bridge

Post by NVNL » Sun Nov 06, 2011 3:11 pm

A morning of frivolous gadding about, first by Harley to Lostwithiel to see a man about a dog. Despite yesterday’s lavish attention it now has top speed of forty-five, a little on the low side, so the Harley is parked in the Eclectic Shed and Little Triumph takes me up to Kit Hill for the VMCC Ride In.

The Long and Winding Leat

Post by NVNL » Mon Nov 07, 2011 4:20 pm

Hello Lynher my old friend.

Image

Good news day today so by way of celebration I took the MT350 (Harley Davidson, not Alcyon) to the Green Triangle for a gentle ride.

Taking my inspiration from other more easterly riders I bring you the sluice which controls the mile and a half leat to Pillaton Mill.

Two questions for you –

A] What’s the thread form in the screw picture?

B] What does the four-letter sign signify?

<<Couldn't get the bikes near the bridge, but its a nice bridge. At the Royal William Yard Plymouth, oh and it's standard MoD issue as we have one at work and I've seen them at other MoD yards...>>

I can't help wondering if the MOD knocks out its used bridges through Withams.

The River Bedalder is one of two streams which drain Temple Moor. You may well know Temple, it's bang on the A30 and is served by two vans, a tea van and a speed camera van. Time back way back the Knights Templar set up a hospice there, hence the name.
Today's offering is a bridge in a wood where the road from Mount to Warleggan crosses the Bedalder. There seems to be a strong possibility that Bedalder is a corruption of the Cornish word Medhalder which means sweetness. Welcome to the sweetness.
We know all things must pass and we pass on to Warleggan, a place of interest, legend and eccentricity.
As we leave the village we meet this stout fellow on his churn stand exhorting the locals to feverish endeavour. His efforts are in vain for our culture has no concept even half so urgent as "manana".

Glad we're clear on that.

Now the Manana Man's churn stand is by Higher Dewey farm, so named because it is the source of the River Dewey. Those of you whose thoughts race on ahead are already wondering if the Dewey is the other stream which drains Temple Moor, and By Synchronicity! it is.

The Bedalder is joined by the Dewey just above Panters Bridge (see Bridge Club 111005 Panters Bridge) where we stopped to post a letter.

Camel Bridges

As they must at this time of year, our thoughts turn now to the River Camel, Alan, Alaine, Aleyn and so forth.

Best wishes to Graham Ham and some great MT snaps from Simmo

Post by NVNL » Sat Nov 12, 2011 9:17 am

I daresay one or two on here have virtually bumped into Graham, yesterday a car bumped into him literally. He's well on the mend already.
