MT500 Sidecar Project!
MT500 Sidecar Project!
Started on fitting a sidecar onto the 500.
Today I mocked it up next to the bike where it will be and started making mountings. Still scratching my head over the bottom rear mount and the kick start will sort somethig out tho.

Re: MT500 Sidecar Project!
Will you have it completed in time to join Ellrider at the Elephant Rally ?
Is this a tactic to reduce your insurance premium ?
I can see from the rope around the gate post to the odd bit of borrowed stone walling that this will be another precision engineering piece, Mr Wasp and Mr Ural no doubt started just the same!

PS Have you got a dog like William for ballast?

Re: MT500 Sidecar Project!

How far is your sidecar wheel infront of the rear bike wheel on yours Mark?
Iv gone for 7" infront with 1" toe in at the front wheel. Im sure it will do!

I think it needs to be a little more than that, 9" +/- 1".nickp500 wrote:haha indeed, was quick and easy to mock up like that.

Re: MT500 Sidecar Project!
If i remember back the rear wheel used to be about 4" on my old BSA outfits.
Here's a handy link for fittings etc.

Re: MT500 Sidecar Project!
Thanks for all the info guys!
Im going to make all of the bike mounts first and then make the sidecar fit them.
Heres the progress so far.
Top front mount on bike, Top back mount, bottom back mount on bike.
Welder broke down other day but thanks to Murdock managed to get some welding done.

Nick ,
you'll have to change your handle to Truslack2 He was about your age when he did a sidecar project.
