We do requests as well ..
Friday night may be Music Night on the steam radio, but over here on all-electronic Bridge Club Friday is Request Day.
This one’s for Dave Blendell, seeker after Kipling, front wheeler follower and raconteur. It is of course the Institute by the bridge at Millpool, near his ancestral home.
On my very circuitous progress there I was pleased to note that the nearby village of Mount now has a shop called Village Green which is open on Fridays, 9 to 5.
I think it was C.P Snow who said, “The bridge is lovely, dark and deep .....
“ but I have promises to keep ....
“ and miles to go before I ....
“get home and listen to cricket on the BBC.â€Â

Goldener Oktober
Late for Bridge Club today and set off in a hurry. Comme d’ habitude The Plan got forgotten very early in the piece as the front wheel led us to Lostwithiel. Again.
On the outskirts of the ancient stannary town we stopped, not to have our tin assayed but because all the petrol had been used up. Skill.
While waiting for reinforcements to arrive we rolled down by force of gravity to Restormel Bridge built in 1939 by the County Council where we watched the river, failed to spot any butterflies on the buddleia which was growing out of the inter-war stonework and listened to the joyous cries of Lostwithiel Wanderers versus The Visitors, a football match. It sounded like an affable affair.
A big old BMW twin went by, possibly one of the early one litre models, and a 1970 VW Microbus followed by a Karmann Ghia. There was even, (can it be true?) a Moto Guzzi 650 in black and gold. For our overseas listeners I should explain that the Cornwall rugby football team plays in black and gold.
The long-suffering Imogen turned up with the needful closely followed by the celebrated Mr and Mrs K who just happened to be passing in a motor car, which is more embarrassing on a golden October afternoon, being seen in a car when you’ve a perfectly good Ducati in the shed, or running out of petrol on a Velocette? Honours even I think.
Then on to see a couple of bridges built by a golf club. Putter or driver?

Whither Thou Goest I will go
Another Glynn valley Sunday, parked Winnie in the river bed at Fletchers Bridge for the photos.
That done we took off for an extensive pootle about the Cardinham area which included a pair of horses ridden, two dogs leashed, a pair of donkeys grazing, two jays flying and a Lotus 11. I’m not big on cars but that Lotus 11 is just lovely, too lovely for the internet - no photos, no co-ordinates.
When we got back to NVNL Acres Imogen said she’d like to have her first go on the Harley, and did, red letter day, she hasn’t ridden since before we sold her Ducati seven years she reckons. Harumble. She liked the MT, albeit in a tense feet won't reach the ground sort of way so I’ll be fitting shorter shocks as soon as maybe.

Lovely, nice ironwork. Mind you it's the same up there as it is down here - park by a bridge for two minutes and some troll nicks the writing off your number plate. Hope they left your picnic boxes alone.
