MAG Protest Ride

Post by StackerMel » Thu Sep 22, 2011 9:37 pm

Is anyone planning on taking part in any of the protest rides this weekend, its only a 20 min ride but i am guessing its the number of riders that will be the important part

Hi,

Just looked on the MAG web site and cannot see any specific stuff regarding this weekend. The usual MAG paranoid "they are aollout to get us" stuff. The issue I have with MAG, ultimatley, is the "little boy who cried wolf" syndrome. I really cannot see PC Plod doing checks of tyre circumferences when they have 1000 and 1 other issues to deal with. I am fully aware of the risks of future legislation posing issues for bike manufactures etc. but so far none of the paranoid crap has totally come true. "they" are not out to get "us". "They" (Police) have many other more important things to deal with. I can recall the days when getting pulled over by PC plod was an occupational hazard of riding a motorcycle and we managed it accordingly ( grovel grovel, yes sir). I fully accept that new regualtion make make new bike production more difficlut but for me and my MT500 and BSA B40WD it is of little immediate significance.
Yours (God, I have more immediate things to worry about)

Here's the page with the run details and starting points:

http://www.mag-uk.org/en/campaignsdetail/a6883" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The issue isn't with the plod pulling you it's more along the lines of if it goes through you just won't be able to buy and fit the parts you can now or alter your bike and if you do you won't get an MOT and the insurance companies will not cover you which will also be the case with the high viz.

Compulsory leg protectors anyone? Try greenlaning with them fitted :roll:

Hi,

I appreciate what you say, and I am not trying to be naive enough to say that the great and the good will look after us, just that I remain unconvinced as to how riding at 45mph will prevent this from happening!

I just think it's a bit silly to ride at 45mph on a Motorway! The only thing it will achieve, is gain more members for MAG (expect to see membership forms handed round and T-Shirts sold) and alienate bikers from the wider public.

If you REALLY want to do something, read through the documents here http://www.dft.gov.uk/consultations/dft-2011-26" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and respond via the proper process.

MAG should be telling you this!

The after market parts and spares industry for bikes is so big that I cannot see Brussels doing much to stop the modification of bikes, not to mention the custom bike scene.
As for hi-viz jackets, that will be feasible, but I doubt it will be more that a reflective sash.
I think that its more a case of mass hysteria, and Madstu is right, far more will be achieved by signing petitions, or voting out of Europe than angering our own motorists and plod.
