Oct 1st 2011 MCC Edinburgh Trial
Would any members be interested in joining me on October 1st in Derbyshire to follow and spectate at several of the sections in this year's Edinburgh Trial?
This is an event which was first run in the early 1900s for both motorcycles and cars involving negotiating off road sections in Derbyshire. The event starts at 1-30am near Tamworth with an early morning control at Carsington Water.
Depending upon MT members interest I would suggest meeting for an early breakfast at the Bull I'th Thorn Pub south of Buxton then heading off to spectate at Bamford Clough etc.
Pub lunch then pick up more sections before returning to the Bull in the afternoon to see the finishers.
If you would be interested in giving your MTs an airing please let me know and I will knock together more details.
Check that your lights are up to it!

Dave,
Might be interested in this, what do you class as an early breakfast?
Camped at the pub many years ago.

Re: Oct 1st 2011 MCC Edinburgh Trial
I am in the process of joining the MCC in order to participate in the Exeter Trial and the Lands End Trial. They start just down the road from me at Popham so thought i would give it a go.
Once i find out more i will put a post up to see if any other members fancy doing it.
Edinburgh is too far for me and i should be off to Wye Valley.
Have fun anyway.

Re: Oct 1st 2011 MCC Edinburgh Trial
The following is an update for any members wishing to join myself at this year's MCC Edinburgh Trial.
Competitors will be starting from Tamworth at 1-30am on Saturday October 1st 2011. They (some 80 motorcyclists and 100 plus trials car competitors) will head north to Derbyshire riding several sections in the dark before having breakfast at the Bull I' th' Thorn Inn located off the A515 some 6 miles south of Buxton, Derbyshire.
In all there are 17 sections, however it is only realistic to ride to a handfull of them. Please note that only competitors are allowed to ride the sections, not spectators.
So if you are going to come then I suggest meeting at 7-00am at the breakfast stop, the Bull I' th' Thorn Inn grid ref SK 128 665. Have breakfast and leave at 7-45am to ride to Bamford Clough, one of the best sections to spectate at. After viewing the bikes and some of the cars in action, I suggest that we ride to other sections and perhaps one of the control points. Eventually arriving back at the Bull to see the competitors signing off and we could have a pint!
I am not planning any off road riding, so you won't need nobbly tyres but you will need good lights for an early morning start.
Maps that will help you are Ordnance Survey Landranger No 119 and 110
Bring a flask and some sandwiches and warm clothing.
If you need further info you can contact me on 01663 744203

Re: Oct 1st 2011 MCC Edinburgh Trial
All fixed , although SWMBO considers me slightly mad to contemplate getting on the road for 5 am then riding for 2 hours to get to the breakfast rendezvous.I'll organise my pass-out with SWMBO
Another outing for my MT !!!

I'm in the same boat as Eric! She thinks I'm mad going for a bike ride at 5am. Got the bike running again today after a few months layup while I rode my Bonneville through Summer. Assuming tomorrows test ride doesn't show up any gremlins I'll be there next Saturday as well.
