Monoshock Trials 604 (MT 604 Fubar mk2)

Post by Franc » Sat Aug 06, 2011 6:11 pm

I will probably be lynched for the heresy that has now become my next project.
After the success of Fubar and the enormous stomping power of the 604 conversion, I found I had trouble with the Vibration through the bars, and the sheer uncontrollable free will of the machine when the trails got tough (you guys have still to attempt the Wye valley).
I have now started my monoshock conversion.
The idea being to produce something that looks like an MT, but handles like a modern trail bike.
I have managed to graft the mono shock and swing arm from a ccm 604 (thanks Ady), into a recently purchased MT frame (cheers Bunker).
I still have some welding, and grinding to do, but I am hoping to post some pictures tomorrow.
Hopefully to be finished for the Wye valley weekend...... :?

I want to keep my MT looking reasonably standard but have done a few mods to make it a better bike. I am looking forward to seeing what can be done with a bit of hard work and imagination.

Good to hear you've got over the loss of FUBAR and have got round to attempting the monoshock conversion at last.... FUBAR is still going strong!!! Still testing the water with the knobbly tyres.... At least she runs in the rain!!! Had no problems there just a bit twitchy going around roundabouts!! Missed out on Ady's acerbis tank, so FUBAR is still as loud and proud as ever!! Been trying to find how far I can go on a tankful (heard so many sad stories about the poor reserve) going to try over a 120 miles next....
Need some advice....
Oil, did you use any specific oil? What did you find she ran best on? And the chain..... Looks a bit slack - can I adjust using cams even though she has a chain tensioner fitted?
Hop the new build goes well. See you in October - I'll be bringing some of that wye vally dirt back with me that I cleaned from underneath the seat and tank!!!!
Regards,
Chris

It adds about 6". I have a CCM arm with twinshock mounts welded on in my 500 and I love the handling. It makes the back end much more predictable.
