....F****** Hell!!!......Day 1 on the continent was gruelling........We decided to make it to Arnham for the night.......about 200 miles from Dunkirk......It P***** down for the first hour so got soaked.......My buddies went into town to the bank and were going to catch me up on the road.......but after 35 miles I lost all power and spluttered ito the first services.....changed the plug then realised it was the f****** carb hose........2 hours later with my fat hands very sore, I was back on the road.......Getting through Antwerp was like battling through London but I followed 4 Russian bikers who blasted through.......Got to the agreed campsite in Arnham at 9, Schnitzel and frites for dinner, hot shower & bed......Didn't meet up with them until the campsite, they having overtaken me whilst repairing the bike......that's my only spare carb hose!......one of the (few) design faults of an MT350......haven't overtightened it so it may well slip off today!

Second day and i've now got a choke problem.....maybe i did some damage changing the hose yesterday but the choke cable doesn't seem to be doing much....when i pull it, it stalls now.....oh shit!.....and I have to keep throttling it to stop it stalling

I can see you've had the tank off.
Worth taking it off again to see its not trapping or pulling at the choke or any other cable
& that their routing is good if you haven't already. It's easy to do on my 500 & now whenever the tank comes off I am always very careful putting it back on.

Good luck, I glad you enjoyed the ride on my 500.

Just a suggestion,

If your carb to engine rubber was split it would be running very lean and now you've fitted a new rubber it won't be, so when you use the choke this will make it very rich thus the stalling.

When are you trying to use the choke? eg: starting after a stop in a ride, restarting after a stall, or from cold?
The fact that it stalls when you pull the choke/enricher on implies it is working.

& following on from ZIPTIE its worth checking/adjusting your idle rich/lean adjustment screw too, as it may have been adjusted previously when maybe you had a leak. No idea on a HD original what screw it is & how to set it to default, others on the forum may be able to help.

That said, it all looked OK last Thursday, so I'd still check the choke cable isn't trapped.

On a standard carb the mixture screw is sealed and not adjustable.

Some people have unsealed them and fitted an ez-just screw which can be adjusted. It works very well.

I thought it was just a normal slotted adjuster screw but under a soft ally blanking plug?

Yes, but you can replace the screw with one that has a protruding knurled end, then you can adjust by hand without a screwdriver. Good for people who love to consantly adjust their CV carbs....

......Rain....rain.....rain.....rain.....rain....rain......hail.....rain......rain.......more f***ing rain.......etc...etc...etc...etc.......!!!!
.......Made it into Berlin tonight.......the highpoint was driving down Potsdam Platz & The Brandenburg Gate ahead.......(I had wet pants though so it put a dampner on it).......
.......After 2 nights in my tent I've got 2 nights ahead in a Berlin hotel.......
.......Still got a problem with the carb.......
.......I think the choke isn't working properly.......and is affecting the running.......
......but that might not be true.......
Basically it runs well at high revs 50 - 60mph.....
But say you're in 5th gear and drop the revs, it splutters and drives jerkily......
same in the other gears.......
adjusted the idling to stop it stalling but that hasn't changed anything other than stopping it stalling
Nick at Force recons I might have damaged the angled end of the choke cable and I'm inclined to agree so tomorrow it's coming off complete with airbox.....
Any thoughts??????

......Yesterday John discovered his waterproof trousers were missing, assumed blown away......Brigid had declared their tent empty on packing it up!.......John then spent 100 Euro on another pair then they were discovered in the tent when it was put up last night!!!....I had to laugh!......

Meant to say....End of day 11.....1945 miles into the journey......bit of a sore arse now!!!!....started to chafe a bit in the rain!......

Choke is not complex technology.

Get the tank off, check the cable and you'll work out what the problem is. You may still have an air leak somewhere. Also check the fuel hose is not over crimped. I checked mine the other day and found I'd reduced the flow by 50% by clamping it too tight.

My guess is still on an air leak that's upsetting the mixture.

Sorry

Meant to say congrats of reaching Berlin. I saw you at Helmstedt on the tracker. Last time I was there we had to use the military train to cross East Germany. How times change and all that...
