Just wanted to share the improved Monty..

Nice looking bike you have there,have you got a centrestand for it or is it just not fitted yet as if you are not going to fit the stand you will have to come up with a way of tensioning the chain. Also someone on this forum was after some paint ,where did you get it from?

krylon sand colour paint is discontinued some places still have a few cans from what i gather they have stopped producing this paint all together

as far as i know smokey hasnt had any issues with chain tension in the last year of riding just need some bolts and springs to add the centerstand

... if you are not going to fit the stand you will have to come up with a way of tensioning the chain.

I asked a similar question to the Captain when I bought his bike. He said that the chap who looked after the MTs for the RAF said that as long as you adjust the chain as per the manual, you'll have no worries with or without side stand.

Does your Mot station allow your bike through without the chain guard?
It is my understanding that this is a legal requirement in the UK, along with a separate reflector (not built into the rear light lens).
If so the moderators may want to scrub Beales garage off the list of MOT stations as they are sticklers for these.

I have never had a chain guard on Monty and he passed no problems.
I not sure that it is a requirement. i have heard that indecators and mirros and also not required, however if they are fitted they must work..(please feel free to quote me if i am wrong )
I will need to get a rear reflector (thanks eddie ) as it was pointed out to me that i don't have one.

I understood that bikes post '83ish had to have indicators, and they do have to have a chainguard but that can be interpreted to just a little bracket bent over the chain.

Daytime MOTs let you get away with murder.

Don't need to have indicators as long as there is no switch... though testers aren't allowed to remove anything from the bike to test it, so a piece of tape over the switch counts.

Technically there is no such thing as a "daylight MOT", though if you have no position lamps you will get an advisory that it should only be used in daylight hours, and not in conditions of reduced visibility.

I was wondering why my 500 came with it's rear reflector held on by velcro. Now I know.... stick it on for MOT take it off when it's passed test.....
