She's home

Yep - brought my MT home the other day.

Demobbed and brought from Witham's in an auction late last year by the guy I got it from, he had then paid to get a new cambelt fitted (the old one snapped when he tried to start it). Then put on a new battery, had it MOT'd and registered, resprayed the tank and got new sidepanels. He rode it two miles and said the power of it scared him.

When I picked it up from the seller, I rode it a couple of miles to a mate's workshop to give it a checkover. On this short trip it showed up a huge flat-spot just off idle. Would bog down completely and then lurch away (if it didn't stall first) - so it was a bit scary I guess.

The next weekend I went and checked it over properly before the longer ride home. I whipped the card to bits and gave it a good clean out and also performed the carb mod and took the top off the airbox while I was at it. The carb slide is very badly worn, but the bike ran very well afterwards, ticked over nicely and ran up to an indicated 70mph with no trouble.

The silencer has been patched but it has stainless front pipes and the Michelin Sirac tyres look nearly new.

There's a bit of tidying up to do and I have a long list of jobs, but overall I'm pleased with what I got for a three figure sum.......

This is intended to be my winter commuter so I've got six months to get it sorted to my liking. More to come and no doubt I'll be posting a few questions along the way.

Good looking bike, you may want to give the brake system a good service if its been stood doing nothing, the seals deteriorate making the pistons stick in the calipers, causing the brakes to overheat and boil the fluid, leading to loss of brakes.
Having been demobbed by Withams this should have been done already, but its best to check before the winters salt takes a grip on the alloy calipers.

i agree. they look better without the boxes etc. i had mine removed when i bought my bike.

I kept my boxes on because it is an expedition bike and i need the luggage capacity but for trail riding/commuting i would take them off. Aerodynamics of a brick with the boxes on .When you take the boxes off it goes slightly quicker and uses less fuel.
