The handguards are plactic and came off flea-bay , second hand and cheap !!! , not sure what they fitted before.

The battery is still there in the normal place .

The mikuni was supposed to be "fit straight from the box " , however its suffering from the poor starting from cold problem . It wont start or run with any choke on , but wont rev past idle until the engines really warmed up , meaning cold starts take 5 mins before u can get going . It really needs the jet mods doing that so many discus on this forum . However when its warmed up , the carb + exhaust make it go pretty well , although the air intake noise and tailpipe do make it pretty noisy . Thats why I fit the orginal tailpipe for MOT day !!! .

I rally love the old MT , Its a great bike for plodding around the country lanes of east anglia , I also like the fact its happy being scruffy , and its also great for home engineers to work on . One of the favourite weezes is turning up to local bike shows and parking it up in the HD section alongside those chrome plated show ponies . Its always guarenteed to cause a stir . I once turned up on it at the Henham steam rally , went to pay at the entrance only to be waved through because they thought I was part of the Milatary vehicle display .

Longer term I want to fit a 500e engine in it , just need to save up. !!!!!!

I gave up on the Mikuni for the same problem you are having. The original CV carb with a 42/160 and the mods runs like a sewing machine now.

I alos put the 500e into mine and have been very pleased with it. Nice grunt, good for a ton with your tits on the tank and a strong enough nerve!! It will cruise all day at 75-80 but the gobble fuel compared to the 350. I get around 40mpg as an average.

However I do love the MT. I use it daily to get to the train station and green laning. I was on the lanes last night and rode to the train station this morning with it covered in mud!!
