What have you done to your MT today ? contd
Re: What have you done to your bike today?
Fitted new rear tyre and decided to sort out the crappy paint on my 500s side panels. Got nitromors out and set to work on the taty paint. Few minutes later and I start to remove it and underneath is a layer of lovely sand coloured paint! Rather than paint whole bike in desert trim I took it all off with more stripper.
Now I have two lovely and clean Armstrong side panels but they have been completely scratched up to take the paint that was applied. Any one got any ideas on how to restore these without repainting them?

Flat them down with the finest wet and/or dry (use it wet) then when you have mostly fine scratches left CAREFULLY blow it over with a hot air gun, this will slightly melt the surface and blend the scratches in.
Don't touch it while it's hot as it may mark it (or do it anywhere dusty etc)

Re: What have you done to your bike today?
I bled the rear brake. As usual when I do anything mechanical outside it poured down with rain. Topping the fluid up while holding a brolly is not easy but the brake seems much firmer now.
A few weeks ago I thought I had serious rear brake problerms as it locked on and overheated. Thought it had to be the rear master cylinder and/or calliper. Turned out it was simply the pedal itself sticking. Took it off, greased it and put it back so it moved smoothly and it worked fine - apart from being a bit soft.

Re: What have you done to your bike today?
Just done the carb mod.
About a year ago when i was in contact with Simon (Bunker) for some authentification docs,
the carb mod came up in conversation.
Ive always intended to do it, but was a bit concerned about the MPG loss. (if any)
Did the airbox modification last year & that made it sound alot more beefy.
Finally got round to the carb & there is a marked difference to the performance.
Reckon it would be interesting to put one on a rolling road to do a before
& after test just to see how much of a difference the modification makes.
The washer i used was 1.2mm thick & the drill hole was the recommended 3.2mm diameter.
No carb adjustment was necessary after the modification.
Happy Days..........
