Hi
The rifle carrier was fitted because of all the health and safety crap that came in when the MOD lost Crown Immunity from prosecution
If you had your rifle slung on your back and you fell off and hurt yourself you could sue the MOD.
The same reason when you travel in the back of a rover on a training area your Bergan is supposed to be carried in a trailer behind, not in with you !!
The Canadians had a bracket on their MT's handlebars for the Sterling SMG.
