Makeing a 500 E start engine

Post by Apophis » Sun Oct 17, 2010 4:45 pm

I have been getting bits together for this and Have made a start on it
I have a 350 crank split and all but one of the bearings out
there are two blind bearings in the crank case Gen side I got one out
I have to repair one of the 6mm threads as it just isnt there it is just a hole

I got one of the blind bearings out with a wall bolt that you use for DIY put it into the centre of the bearing tightened it up and then put a plate over to tighten on to draw the bearing out but the wall bolt i got wasn’t big enough to get the second bearing out here is a pic of what I mean

I used some more of the time I had to strip the gearing down to inspect for damage
And clean in the parts washer here is a pic of it stripped down

I have a spare set of gears but the ones that came out are as good as the ones I have as spare

The Balance shaft in the 350 is different to the 500 E engine the one used is the 604 Balance shaft so I am going to use a 604 One in the engine a new 500 crank is also going in and all new bearings the other difference is the oil pump I will need to get a 500 oil pump as well for the engine build.
I have a new 500 barrel and piston already waiting to go on and I will need to get a good second hand Head to refurbish

As I progress with this I will post more Info

Hand going up here for an engine split DVD - 350 or 500 as I guess they are more similar than dis-similar.

It would be very interesting, even if I never do it myself I'd like to see how everything comes apart

so you're going to fit the crankcase with a 500 barrel and head??

does the crankcase need any machining for the cylinder to fit??

great idea by the way, good luck
