I've never been before; what happens exactly? And just making sure but, can we send the £20 in cash? The wording is vague where they say "The Entry Fee will be £20 or €30 (notes only)... Cheque’s in Sterling only made payable to..." Does that mean 'cheques only' or 'cheques in sterling only'??

Sorry, I'm feeling more stupid than normal this morning...
Have a look at this link it's self explanitary http://www.conwymcc.co.uk/?page_id=13" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Everyone camps at the rally site on the Saturday night as it is only a one night rally. You send your cheque(fresh out of your cheque book) and two SAE(self addressed envelopes with stamps) They return a ticket immediately in one envelope to show you've paid then because the location is kept secret(no it's not a rave) you receive your second envelope with the location of a caravan which you have to find on the morning of the rally to get a sticker and directions to the site.

The rally is within a certain radius of Betws y Coed so many people stop overnight in this area on the friday night(bunkhouse, b+b,camping etc) for an extra nights socialising and to give yourself an easy start on the saturday.

Hope this clarifies things but more probably confuses matters.

Thanks Mark,

That's the link I was looking at earlier and got confused from  I don't think I have a cheque book any more... I'll have a look and if not I'll go to the bank. Could I send cash instead do you reckon? I have a £20 note sitting smugly in front of me...

Thanks for explaining what happens though. I may camp both nights as I'm aspiring to be more of a survivalist. No doubt I'll get fed up though!

I couldn't see it being a problem as they take euros in cash, I'm sure they are trustworthy enough.

Yes you can send cash, I have on a couple of occasions no problem.

The dragon is about having a laugh and the ride there and back, you dont need to know to much about it.....its a established avent with a very wide age group and equaly mixed style of riders and bikes.

just go :D

Did i tell you about the time in the Dragon,

when i had to pour warm water on to a poor chaps face
because his metal framed glasses had frozen to his nose.

Or me being an idiot and sleeping with the air vents closed on my tent,
I thought it would keep me warmer,
The whole tent froze solid because of condensation i had to break all the zips to get
out of the tent :(

And dont bother bringing throw away gas lighters to start your cooker
Because they wont work in sub zero conditions.

And buy the best sleeping bag you can afford.

Hush now Andy, don't tell 'em until they got the tickets, or better still on the friday night at the bunkhouse. :D

there's one or two on here explaining the rally and the conditions you might have to endure
the thing that you will or might encounter is ice and snow as you are a new rider this might be your big problem???.
but if it was like last year it will be ok but you can never tell.
get as much riding in as you can to build up your experience.

Bloody hell!

Now, I can quite proudly say that I've been to Russia in the winter and the temperatures there were, let's just say exhilarating. I can't imagine South Wales being as bad as that. But then again (and that's a big 'but'), I did have a warm(ish) hostel to go back to - and I wasn't on a motorbike!

So thanks for the advice chippy1 - it has been well noted. I have a good tent already, but I don't think my sleeping bag is up to much. Can anyone vouch for the army ones that you find on surplus websites? I was thinking of a bivvy/modular thing...

Yeah, that's kind of my main worry. I'm doing all the riding I can (coz I don't 'arf enjoy it ;) ) and I'll take it slowly on the way up there. If anyone else is going from the South West, maybe I can tag along? Not that I want to slow you all down! I'm in Yeovil.

P.S. Any other advice for a newbie?
