Bike Built for Turkey
Bike Built for Turkey
Right some of you may remember the Turkey trip that was cancelled last minute. Well myself and two other members on here have decided to do the trip in 2013, Its a long way off, I know but its when 2 of us are out of the Army and aren't restricted on our movements and time.
So, a quick update.
Bike 1 belongs to Sheriff Fatman and is road legal already. He bought it about 12 hours after i mentioned the trip to him.
Bike 2 is my one and is complete, has just passed its MOT and is waiting for me to get off my arse and register it.
Bike 3 is being built by me for a good friend who has sourced most of the parts and was the main organiser for Turk Tiger. The following thread covers the build.
A big thanks to Bunker who has sorted both mine and bike 3 for frames and engines.
So in the beginning there was a sound frame which had a reasonable amount of surface rust
Frame has been wired brushed and sanded, rust treated, etch primed, painted Vauxhall leaf Green ( same as bike 2 ) and Laquered.
Rear shocks are second hand and quite corroded so I've stripped one down, checked the operation of the shock, cleaned it up and stuck a coat of etch primer on it. Any suggestions on a flexible covering for the springs?
The swing arm has had the bearings stripped out and cleaned, all good
Now the paint is dry I've started the build, new coil and new ignition amp bolted on. New headstock bearing outer races pressed in and a new oil filler cap. The Harley is currently 1 cat power!

Good luck with your trip. 2013 is also the start of our big adventure and Turkey is included as well a lot of the rest of Europe. I've got my bike more or less how I want it now so I will be stripping it shortly to start rebuilding it as the frame desperately needs a coat of paint.
I hope you kept a few sets of those panniers back for yourselves!

You don't need a parachute to skydive. You only need a parachute to skydive twice.

Re: Bike Built for Turkey
as a covering for the springs, try fork gaitors.not sure if you can get them with a big enough diameter tho. was thinking of doing that myself but havnt got round to it.let us know if you find something suitable.
great build so far.
brian
just a thought.it might be an idea to cover the shock body with a protector .to stop the spring rubbing on the body.ive just fitted new shocks and the spring has rubbed all the paint off already.was thinking of shrink rap myself.

As a club, we have the replacement sleeves and spring separator for those shocks, for sale.
Digger had standard gaiters on his shocks at one point if I remember rightly

Re: Bike Built for Turkey
Thanks for the comments chaps, It looks to me that the spring seperator is the part that actually rubs the shock body to I'm going to try a bit of heat shrink on it.
