I think you might find that its 6 km and not miles as NATO maps are in km and a miles speedo would be of no use for judging distance.
I do believe that they are miles, on UK spec speedos it has the legend km in blue beneath both the odo and trip meter on the LH side, This US spec version does not show this, but has MPH below odo and trip on the RH side.

Thats an interesting tail pipe on the exhaust, any chance of some more close up pics, its completely different to the ones on our MT350's over hear.

I think the US versions have an extended exhaust rear section because most states require a spark arrester to be legal.

hey man where did u buy your mt?.....thing looks mint! mine is number 75....dont ride it because you cant get parts from anywhere but uk unless im wrong......i have yet to go to a harley shop and have anyone know what an mt is.

But I'm sure one of your countrymen posted a couple of months ago saying that he couldn't understand why he got parts delivered from the UK, faster than he got parts delivered from California. Go ride you machine and enjoy it !

Bought my MT in February in State College, Pa. at a Harley dealer who had it since 99. It had 6 miles on it when I took delivery. Mine is number 61. I wouldn't hesitate to ride it. Parts from the UK get here faster than from California. I haven't even changed the oil yet, but other US MT owners have told me that BMW oil filters fit and air filters can be cut down from a commonly available one (not sure which one). Everything else is just a phone call to the UK away. I restored mine to military spec by adding a blackout switch and MT350 headlight cowl that restores the start only position so it can be started without the lights on. The only other thing I did was add an air pump and brackets. I finally rode it the other day and really like it. Very smooth transmission. I am in Pittsburgh, Pa.

There is a guy down here in york that has about 6 of them. I know there is atleast 2 in dubois. I'm curious to ask how much you paid? I gave way too much on ebay for one that fell over on the gun side!...6000 must have lost my mind! It is fun to ride and all my harley riding buddies get fired up when everyone walks right past their machine to look at the "army bike". Im also curious about the blackout switch? pics please if you get time.

clc, have you changed your cambelt? Easy to do, has been done on the roadside in 20 minutes, and there is a tutorial on the forum. http://mtridersclub.freewebspace.com/index_1.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; The belts have a shelf life of 10 years, but that assumes they are not tight round a pulley. The portion round the pulley will have age-hardened if it has been sitting for a few years.
If the belts break, it's not a disaster, the standard cams are 'safe' so metal doesn't meet metal, but being stranded at the roadside isn't fun. You need a crank locking bolt to do the job.

The crank locking bolt is just an M8 bolt miniumum 50mm but longer can make it easier to fit. You then grind, file or turn in a lathe the end of the bolt to a blunt point (like a broken pencil tip) It is approximately the 8mm diameter of the bolt tapered down to a 5mm diameter point over the last 5mm of the bolt's length.

I'd hate you to have an avoidable breakdown, just when you're enjoying your new bike ! Eric
