check your carb boots, typical problem with air leaking in engine side of the carb...

lol, I worked out what the problem was - It was SpongeBob! Must have got damp or something and not letting enough air though maybe? But I've taken it out now and now replaced with the foam stuff I got off ebay. I also redid the carb to engine bodge so hopefully that'll be a better fit - it doesn't back fire now at least!

And also, as if by magic, the carb has stopped leaking out the overflow as well! All I did was spray some carb cleaner I got from Halfords into the airbox while the engine was running yesterday, and today it doesn't leak any more!

If you are using the panniers I would put the side bars back on.
Have you thought about silicon pipe for the carb boot? Have a look here.

The panniers are empty, so just for show at the moment, lol, I only went about 4 or 5 miles

I'm leaving them off for the moment though until I get the carb all sorted properly, as it's a pain to get to it with them on!

I tried using the silicon hose but couldn't get on with it, was very flexible when engine running, I'd see it contract and expand with each rev. Also couldn't get the bike to move, died when I applied power, so have stuck the original bodge back in for now.

I also just did the carb mod, have ridden it around the block and it works. Not really noticed much difference but haven't rode it properly yet.

I've realised my clutch cable is also almost at the end of it's life it seems. It's right at the end of the adjustment on the hand lever.

Bike update complete. Hopefully it'll make it to Stafford!

A lot of the cables being used need to be fully adjusted from new, mine won't even take all the slack up when fully adjusted. So as long as it hasn't started fraying and it's lubed you should be ok.

I added a blood box on the back earlier too. Looks a bit odd at the moment but don't worry, I'll paint it green!

I still think you could do with a bit more storage, rack above the light maybe and a tank bag, prehaps a 100l rucksack; or if you still can't fit all the blood in how about a small bowser to tow behind?

RE: sillycone hose, I did not get on with it either- original rubber is fine for the job. I dont know if some have got a thicker walled hose or a different construction but I found it flexed and worked its way off. If you get an original rubber a new one be carefull so seat it propely before tightening and dont horse the clamps up I have seen (had) a couple ruined due to this.
