I was surprised also the swinging arm bearings are in good condition and kept well greased, I am going to carry on stripping on Friday after college and hopefully get to painting on the next week if it warms up

Seeing one getting taken apart does make me interested in getting an old dog just for the fun to take it to bits without worrying if anything breaks.

Well i started the frame and i am considering having it shot blasted as there are many diffrent coats underneath and more layers come of in one area and less another layer so it needs to go back to metal aslo it will allow me to get a better paint Finnish

looks like a great project ...good luck .
just a note on engine paint if i may? i sprayed mine with bbq paint(satin) on the cylinder and head.no problems and a good finnish.as for the engine cases i used hammerite satin.after using nitromorse ,to get all the old paint off,and a good rub down to get the corrosion off,the finnish was good.only one problem i have is proofing the cases against fuel spills. to date i have not found a way of proofing the finnish. if you come up with something please let me know.

What a great project, I do suggest you get the main bits blasted and primered, shouldnt cost much but will get all the old glug off and as you say, get you a much better finish. That was the first 500 I ever had, I bought it with another one, then it went to Gonzo then lowuk, perhaps you should call it Round Robin

I need help removing the bottom bearing from the yoke the manuel says use a press to remove the stem


But the frame is ready to be primed just waiting for it t heat up outside

not much more to strip now, managed to get the fork apart that wasn't fun. And rather messy.

Well finally some mild weather! I wanted to test the primer to see how it will hold on the old paint which was rubbed down, so i have some primer on the oil tank part of the frame now. And it is holding rather well, but the temperature decided to drop as soon as i had applied it so i have the gas heater in there now.

All the rally bad paint is back to metal only the swinging arm left to strip.

When the primer has dried some more i will get some pictures. Will need another couple of coats though. Also im using the yacht primer for metal lovely to apply will be nice to see how the yacht top coat comes out
