What have you done to your MT today ? contd

Not today but took my MT 500 for mot last Saturday and passed with flying colours.

I spotted an MT 500 on the A50 yesterday heading towards Stoke, and a couple of weeks ago on a sunny Sunday I spotted a MT350 in Dent a village near Sedbergh, good to see them out and about.

Very enjoyable ride on Friday. Across moors. Sat and Sun it p*ss*d down here in plymouth. Mastered clutches upward shift through the gears, forgot how easy it was to do this on the MTs

Fitted a new inlet manifold - it now ticks over and runs just right - phew.

Took the back brake apart on my MT500 to check the shoes, and glad I did as I found that all bar one of the wheel bearings were dodgy, one not far off collapsing. No obvious symptoms from riding it, but that might just be me

Search on 'Initial Servicing Guide' , it's in Top Tips. Renewing wheel bearings is mentioned there along with lots of other things to check on an MT

took my engine out ,split head,observed dropped exhaust valve seat on decompresion side ,,observed exhaust valve guide out of position having dropped out of head, ..noticed new liner,piston rings and piston ,,,head gasket in good condition so plenty of work done on my engine yee haa put all bits in a box and did the litany of thanks to the chinese takeaway containers i saved for lord knows why,,hold fast,steady course .research building my head

took my head into my kitchen and removed the offending valve,,,,only half the guide came out,,the guide has sheared neatly in half at the internal clip groove,,valve stem seal looks good, new valve .valve guide and reamer required,,,i will try to get photo of it on here,,the valve seat went in ok,,peaned it over but feel a new head is the way forward as the previous peaning has disapeared,,,so not so bad,,what a tough little engine,

I'd ask Hounddog how to post photos, I've never posted any.

As for the section you're posting in, a moderator has the ability to lift posts and move them in the right area. It would enable others to find your posts if they where in the Technical section.

Your journey is very interesting , I don't know whether you followed the thread a few months back about an MT350 owner who ground away metal that was impeding gas flow, effectively the standard design is inefficient and limits gas flow. Fine if you want to limit the speed of young soldiers but no good for older riders who want to be hooligans ! ( The grinder chap was an engine tuner and hit 100mph on his 350)

98 is my 500 maxed out through exmoor on my metzlar saharas,,my confirmation was a isuzu d max following me .. im not a holigan honest,,,my last iron horse was a gsxr 750i called palimino, last of the 4 in line carb models..faster than any landy cept v8 110 rally motor...vrooom
