Offroad ride in Leicestershire, weekend of Friday 30/10/20

Post by geoffbarnett » Tue Sep 29, 2020 9:47 am

I am exploring the suitability of the site below for a large meet - when the present crisis ends.

Hence I have approached usual offroad suspects to see if they wanted to be part of this small trial; four have said yes (hence five with me).

I've booked a field behind a pub in the heart of the best lanes. Food and drink 2 nights and breakfast 2 mornings. Camping is usually/always was free, but some time ago. The Wheel Inn, Branston, Leics, NG32 1RU. See their website.

There are lots of lanes. We will be out all day. The conditions will be claggy and muddy. Knobblies rather than mere trail type tyres are advisable.

Beginners/improvers/novices are welcome - but see note on tyres.

There's one more space and then we will be a group of six.

If you will definitely attend say so here or send me a PM.

At the weekend five of us met at the Wheel Inn, in the village of Branston in north Leicestershire. Ian (Dave's pal) had to cry off due to a possible covid contact, so that left the aforementioned Dave, Andrew, Phil, Simon and myself.

On Friday night, Andrew, Phil, Simon and I camped behind the pub. Dave, hailing as he does from disease ridden South Yorkshire couldn't stay overnight and had to ride out to meet with us on Saturday morning.

We had a very full day on Saturday and encountered every possible type of glutinous mud on the planet. It was great fun, in good company.

Saturday night, just for a change we drank more beer and talked bollocks about the day's incidents. Then, thrown out of the pub at 10 pm, we sat up late around a firepit and drank Simon's whiskey.

The Wheel Inn is in a beautiful village and has a field at the back that we camped on - no charge. The food was good, as was the beer. This venue would be very suitable for a large meet when the present unpleasantness passes.

Thanks for a very enjoyable weekend Geoff. Planned to perfection before the lockdown. :D
The mud was character building and a fantastic cardiovascular workout.
A shame the going was slow so we were unable to complete the full route. But plenty left for the next one.
A good location, great ale and not bad food.
It was good to get out with the lads on probably the last MT meet for a while.
