Projects: Back on the Block
Projects: Back on the Block
Good evening MT riders,
We've been meaning to start a project topic on here for a while, but we've been too busy with the projects to start one
My friend Martin (Nosnibor) and I bought two MT350's a few months back with plans to understand every nut and bolt and learn a whole lot along the way. We WILL be getting them dirty the minute they are fully finished and freshly painted!
We'll share our journey here and will no doubt be seeking parts and advice when we realise we can't put them back together
Here are a few photos of our journey so far:
We purchased and collected both on the same day from two southern forum members. So it was a bit of a road trip!
My MT was the first to be stripped down
Martin's MT tear down
We are now at the prepping and painting stage for the mountain of parts. We are mainly focusing on prepping and painting the parts that will allow us to build the rolling chassis again.
Cheers,
Paul

Re: Projects: Back on the Block
Hey thanks for starting the thread Paul
So yes and with this being housebound, it should help speed up the process eh. So the aim is to get them both done by my birthday in July but I'm hoping it will be before that. We're doing all the plastics too (which I hate prepping by the way) so they should be nice showroom pieces (before we dirty them of course ).
I'm pretty new to bike mechanics so Paul leads the way a lot (if not always), I started really getting into it a couple of years ago but loving every minute and hope I'm picking it up quickly and then going it alone when I can, I have crap loads to learn but we think the MT350 is the perfect bike to learn on. As we go through the process one or both of us will be adding photos to this thread and like Paul said we will be asking for you all to share a little of your wealth of knowledge on this bike and all the clever techniques you have discovered over the years.
Cheers

I like the look of the grubby one with the Armstrong tank.

Yes that's Paul's one that, the tank is nice I like it, maybe some parts might accidentally get mixed up when we put things back together wink wink!

Re: Projects: Back on the Block
Good luck with the re-builds
One owner did the same and had his frame powder coated. Upon rebuild he didn't have a spark. After some investigation he found that either the cdi or coil was isolated from the frame, but electrical contact was necessary. A little sandpaper solved the problem !
Good to hear you're going to get them muddy

How funny is that! I wouldn't have thought of that but yes we thought there is no point in powder coating it, we'll only get pee'd off if we happen to scratch it whilst rebuilding, plus I'm sure we'll be splitting it again soon after and repairing things (so we'll make sure we have a surplus amount of RAL6020 in stockWirralman wrote: ↑Sun Mar 22, 2020 11:14 pmGood luck with the re-builds

One owner had his MT powder coated and was too frightened to go off-road in case he scratched it
If you need parts, post in the Wanted section. There are members with spares they'll never need, I'm one of them !

Need some new numberplates there, don't think they will pass MOT with them that badly pixelated.
Great thread lads, look forward to seeing you both in future meets.

Thanks for the kind words and tips so far!
We'll be sure to get those number plates stored before the MOT
As I'm working from home it was rude not to spend my entire lunch break degreasing parts in the sunshine today! We will try to keep you guys updated and we look forwards to catching up with you when everything has calmed down.
