What have you done to your MT today ? contd
Re: What have you done to your MT today ? contd
Changed the bloody back tyre inner tube again. The fecking thing was just parked up, and yet the back tyre went flat. Do these things do it for fun or what? Checked the rim tape and it looked okay, but the tube split on the inside.....FFS??? Am I missing something?

Do you have rimlocks fitted? They go old and hard and develop sharp edgesDave_S_MT wrote: ↑Tue Jul 03, 2018 10:45 pmChanged the bloody back tyre inner tube again. Cheers Zip Tie... no, no beadlock fitted... guess if it happens again I'll renew the rim tape and go from there... ho hum.

I have taken MT tyres off and found the rim tape as merely a skeleton for duck tape, so if the tape you have looks reasonable, I can't see that being the key to your problem
I've also found a few rear rim locks which have been past their best but have always replaced them on the rear wheel They don't cost much and are easy to fit. If your valve had torn from the tube , then lack of rim lock would be the probable cause
You say that your tube has split so I would replace with a new good quality tube, but there are tubes and tubes, road use, heavy duty off-road, ultra heavy duty. I used to fit Ultra and only had one puncture in 20,000 km, and that was a 6 inch nail More challenging to fit and not supposed to be for extended high speed but hardly an issue with an MT Some fill with moose , but whilst puncture proof it is designed for off road and could invalidate insurance if used on road
In short, renew/refit rim lock and fit a fresh quality tube of a type appropriate to your usage

Thanks guys. Latest tube is a heavy duty one sourced from a local offroad motorsport specialist... so I'll keep my fingers crossed and see how it goes.

Good luck with your new tube. The unfortunate part is that if you report back in 12 months time saying that all is well, you'll tempt fate We will have to assume that no news is good news

Those Vee tubes are that thick you'd be forgiven for thinking you could run it without the tyre.
