My Other MT

Post by Fontanero » Sun Dec 10, 2017 10:07 am

Hi all,
Finally I have got round to posting pics of my mt.
I bought the bike a while back from old diggerdog k9 and rode it back to Spain via Gary at Sportax, who gave it a once over so I wouldnt have any nasty suprises on the way home.
The bike was stripped and the engine delivered to Sportax via the pyranees for a rebuild, powdercoat and a 405 conversion.
The project started off with a budget but that soon vanished over the horizon the more involved I became. I decided the bike was to be used mostly on the local mountain caminos, but must be able to do a trip I have been thinking about for a while to Morocco and Mauritania. I had been collecting bits over the years that members had been producing with this project in mind.
Frame and sundries were sent to the shop for sandblasting and powdercoating, plastics were given the hot gun treatment, which after an expensive learning curve the parts I had not destroyed came out a treat. Brakes split and refurbed with new braided lines. New wiring loom, components, heated grips and a usb/power socket. Anything that needed changing was changed, I knew I was now out of control.
It helped alot that I also have another MT so I used a combination of manuals and the real thing, this was invaluable as sometimes the manual wasnt as clear to me as I would have liked.
I spent the time outside putting this together as the weather warmed, taking my time and immersing myself in the project, it just reminded me of Mecanno. This was turning into the best summer.
The bike is now finished, apart from sorting out some bags for the rear racks and registration with the authorities.
Started on the button and sounds great, especially without the exhaust baffle.
Just like to give my thanks to Gary at Sportax for advice and where no question was stupid, Joth for his tutorials, George for everything stainless, Force, LMS and Rex for having all the bits, and of course you lot for inspiration.

Nice Job Paul! Well done! Should go well with the 405 motor and free flowing exhaust.
