Installed a new Motobatt, new D8EA spark plug and new "ignition amplifier" (CDI box) from Rex's Speed Shop, then rode from Bognor Regis to Haslemere. I had put a generous amount of Briggs & Stratton fuel stabiliser in it when I parked it three years ago and was pleased to find that although the fuel did not retain enough potency to actually start and run, (fair enough, it only claimed to make fuel last "up to two years"), my carburettor was completely unblocked. I took the carb out to clean it, but really I didn't need to.

Although the 3 year old fuel wouldn't work in the bike, I put it in the family Nissan and it seems to work fine there with the car's modern-ish fuel management systems.

The old CDI box was still working, I only bought the one from Marcus because I wasn't sure I wanted to continue trusting the 32 years old one and the write-up on the new one promised better starting, which so far seems to be true. Also seems to have quite a bit hotter spark, too.

Oh, had to air up the tyres, too.

--1985 Armstrong MT500, was 05 KE 27. Installing 604E engine, better front brake and better rear shocks.
--Currently back in Papua New Guinea, left the bike hibernating in Surrey again

Engine out after failure on the A roads. Only to find big end has just a tad more that 0.05mm of play In it. Clutch disassembles and tabs filed down. Looked like a saw. . Think sportax might be getting a call in the morning :(
