Battlefield tour Germany. Gauging interest.

Post by Pirate » Tue Sep 27, 2016 2:46 am

Having covered some of Western Europe over the last two years and with Normandy next year. Thinking of heading into Germany. Covering 6th para landing, link up and various other locations (possible site of Great Escape pow camp and Colditz).

Please post below.

Might be interested in your trip Simon. I would prefer a WW2 site seeing trip rather than following a military campaign ?
Dams
Colditz
Nuremberg
Eagles nest
Hohenwerfen Castle( where Eagles Dare )
Etc etc
Depending on time and milage

Went to Colditz last year, very good but pay a bit more for the English speaking guide, well worth it. Bit boring heading east into the former GDR (if you go around Leipzig, that is), might be more interesting routes? Enjoy.

Stayed in a small town called Rangsdorf near Dalawittz (about an hour from Berlin) in former DRG when I worked there back in 2001, I came across a large military tower not far from Bad Se, Rangsdorf, also while riding in the surrounding area I came across a massive Army vehicle depot with loads of Russian vehicles (doubt if they are still there now). I was also told by the locals that Rangsdorf was a place frequented by German officers who used stayed on leave during WWII, and also later by DRG and Russian army officers. There are lots of German WWII sites around Berlin but they're spread out.
