MT350 Project

Hi there,

I just got my MT350 as posted in the welcome board. Now here´s the technical stuff. The MT was bought directly from the british army and when it came, it looked like this:









After exchanging the battery I have been able to get the engine started, I just had to clean the carburetor and that was about it.

Today I´ve tried to fix the clutch, the handle bar looks like this, you can´t pull the lever:



So looking up in the operators manual (service manual not here yet), I found the page with the clutch adjustment and I tried that, without success.



For the lock nut, I had to make up something, because I didn´t have the original toolkit, but it worked.

Now there´s still the problem, that I can´t use the clutch - I would be happy for any suggestions.

Hi, if you havn´t the official "Datenblatt" for the TÜV (like MOT - but more awful) §21 inspection, you´ll have a real project. Hope you have all the papers and a nice mate at the TÜV.

The correct battery is CB14LA2 or YB14LA2, different manufacturers start the number differently . but the last few are the same, 14LA2

If you look at the link , in FIG 1 it is a type 3 , you have a type 4 battery in your picture- look at the location of the + terminal.

If you haven't found the manuals on the forum yet, go to the Technical section/Tutorial/ Instructions for Jobs with parts lists and tool lists, then click on the freespace link and you'll find some good information, such as the full parts lists with part numbers. Also. try looking here

After reading a bit, I´m afraid that probably only the clutch cable isn´t hooked into the clutch release lever inside the clutch. I´ll check that right after breakfast.

If the clutch cable isn,t hooked into the actuating lever release the cable from the handlebars,push the cable inner right through and make sure it goes behind the actuating lever then use a piece of bent wire or a paperclip until the nipple seats in the end of the lever. There is a small spring(there was on my ccm 604) clip so it will engage positively. Re-attach the cable at the handlebars but leave the adjuster wound right in for maximum free play then re-adjust your screw and locknut at the engine casing as follows. Slacken off the nut wind the screw in until it seats lightly then turn the screw back 1/4-1/2 a turn(check the clutch by riding and re-adjusting to get the correct biting point) and whilst holding the screw in the correct position ,tighten the locknut without moving the screw. Using the original tool or a box spanner or thinwall socket held with molegrips. If none of this works it is not unheard of for cables to be supplied with the inner too long so you cannot get the correct adjustment.Also check the cable outer is fully seated in the ferrule at the clutch casing and check the o-ring and cable boot as i ended up with bad oil leaks from this point. And could you tell me what the little indicator lamp or similar is in the centre of your headlight surround next to the speedo is. I have never seen one of these on a MT350 before. Thanks,

A lot of the clutch cables around for the MT seem to have too much length to the inner cable so it cannot be correctly adjusted, you may have to make a spacer up to take up most of the slack.

concerning the "indicator light": you probably meant the mounting screw (I´ve just made a better pic)



Back to the clutch cable, I may be to stupid, but how do I put the cable where ?



Do I have to open up the clutch cover including cam belt removal ? When I pull on the clutch cable, nothing moves - you can´t pull it, not even a single millimeter. But I can press it inside though, but where is the lever located ?

Nice hint, thank you ! But through the other hole, I can´t see anything - maybe that is the problem ?

I´ve seen in the service manual, what the part looks like, but I can´t even feel something like that, when sticking the smallest finger inside
