Nice picture on your bridgeclub site of my rack with the C3/left leg adaption. I'm not going to straighten it out, I like the shape.
Cheap tools can be a (metaphorical) life-saver.
Last evening at Six-Fifty Club we made a serious assault on the lid of the cover for the secondary oil filter on my Rotax engine.
A simple design, held in by three Allen bolts, this contoured alloy plate holds a paper filter an O ring just so and is fairly accessible.
Every April, almost without regard to mileage covered, I change all the oil and all the filters on all my bikes, and the tractor.
In April 2014 I could not remove one of the Allen bolts on the lid of the cover for the secondary oil filter on my Rotax engine. Likewise April 2015, so the filter was now almost due for changing on the basis of mileage covered.
A wide variety of top flight Allen keys, and Torx bits were brought to bear on the socket head of the stuck set screw which sits it a very natty recess. Nothing worked.
My pal sent me off to find a tiny cold chisel, while on this particular wild goose chase my eye was caught but a set of cheap-jack, stocking filler interchangeable bits suitable only for melting down for Mazak.
There was a 5mm hex allen bit about 2" long with the word "sacrifice" written up the middle of it.
My pal hammered it into the socket headed set screw, stuck a long handle on it and turned. Out came the stuck screw! Hurray!
Notably the cheap-jack interchangeable bit from a pound shop set was unharmed.
So cheap tools really do have their moments of glory.
