Northants Weekend Camping Poll

Post by Mr Shiney » Fri Nov 27, 2015 11:56 am

I am just looking at camping arrangements for the northants meet 26-28th February 2016 and have come up with two options locally for camping.

We can either use Spanhoe airfield which is a little out of the way and will not have power and just a hose pipe and chemical toilet or we can use new lodge farm with proper pitches, heated toilet and shower blocks and electric hookup etc. The owner Simon also has a small bistro type set up which we may be able to get him to open or the possibility of a pig roast if the numbers permit. Unfortunately the local pup has closed so if people want to go to the pub we will need to come up with a plan.

There will obviously be a fee for the campsite but Simon will do us a deal as its out of season. His normal tarif is shown on the link before so thats the worse case scenario.

So Mick; what clicking button part of the vote don't you understand?
also, bear in mind that you will be camping in February... or will you be sleeping in the van?

I am not biased either way as my bed in my centrally heated house is about 1mile away from either location!

Just bear in mind the airfield has no lighting or facilities and is in the middle of nowhere so we will be making our own light and entertainment on limited facilities if we choose that.

Does either site have any advantage for 'playing' ? e.g. would we be able to buzz around the airfield but respectfully behave on the campsite? Also, does either affect the possibility of playing with the trials bikes?

Either site needs to be respected. The airfield is where I keep my aircraft and would rather not wind up the operator. The spot he is offering is a corner off the end of one of the runways. He does not want bikes ragging up the grass runway in winter and damaging it. The spot available to us uses the main runway and taxiway to transit out of the airfield. If it was the summer we could pitch up in near my hanger and have power etc. but with it being winter it's easy to damage the grass.

We can still use the quarry at the back of the airfield whichever site we use. However, the thought occurs that we ad going to arrive Friday night in the dark, be out all day Saturday until sunset and be gone Sunday so might not get an opportunity to use the trials bike.

Just a suggestion but a quick search gives local hotel rates for a twin room for two nights of around £106 [so £53 p/p for 2 nights] i.e.

Alternatly for Friday night only a twin room for £49

A fellow MT owner who owns a pub has offered to bring a bar round to wherever we decide to pitch up and run at cost for us.

I will go and take some pictures this afternoon of both options to help people choose. While I only live a mile away I will probably stay in the Shiney mobile palace so I can have a beer or two.
