Starting point for desert bike
Does anyone know the military paint codes for the desert colours, sand/beige?

I believe the correct colour is BS381C 361
thats the colour I am doing one of mine in. There are suppliers who advertise that colour as military vehicle paint - I got a local paint supplier to mix up some for me

Re: Starting point for desert bike
There was no official colour for desert sand..... It was mixed by batch as needed. When I was in the first gulf war, they just mixed up whatever was to hand to make it roughly the right colour. I don't believe an official standard code was issued.

I agree with Mr Shiney, there were no ex factory MT350s painted in desert colours. The MT500 was supplied in a few different colours ex factory although I don't think desert sand was one of them

Hi Chaps,
I can verify that there were some MT 500's in the first Gulf War, painted desert sand.

I believe that MT500 production ceased in 1987, some 3 years before the first Gulf War started. Whilst some bikes would have been painted desert sand I would question whether there was a 'correct' ex-factory colour for desert operationDon wrote:Hi Chaps,

It may not have been factory painted, but that didn't matter to the RAF, it must have been an inside job.
Mind you, it took them a month to provide desert clothing !
Try as you might, you cannot make jungle combats blend into the sand !
