Greenlaning with Jooles - 4.7.15

Post by Laurence » Tue Jul 07, 2015 12:28 pm

Rode down to West Firle in Sussex with Jooles last Saturday to ride a half decent trail that pretty much overlooks the South Downs.
The weather was great, but there was a distinct lack of mud... Instead whoever was following ended up with a face full of dust!
The bikes were great and the track was enjoyable, nothing too stressful, however a particularly deep bank of loose gravel did cause
Jooles to loose his front end, with resulting damage to his wrist :( hope you're healing up mate!

Good effort. I hope it wasn't his 'good' wrist. Get a day organised and I'll pop up for it.

Just an update.
So, we had a fantastic day out on a brilliant road. Trying to avoid the dust and stones being launched from Laurence's back wheel, I got caught in the gravel at the side of the road and clipped a tree tith the bark busters. they done their job and saved my fingers, but when the handle bar twisted back, it sent my thumb up my arm. Quite painfull. Anyway, we carried on for ahile and headed home. Pulling the clutch in was excruciating, so a bit of gear crunching was called for.
Once home, I noticed a bit of swelling. After a visit to the hospital, a broken Scaphoid was diagnosed, and i was sent home in a plastercast. The following day, a phone call from the doctor advised i should come back, as they wanted to hold the break together with a screw.
I had the opperation on Friday 17th, so hopefully will be back on two wheels before too long.
To get to work, I have had to borrow an automatic car, and the drive takes an extra 20 mins in each direction, providing there is no problems on the A2, which as we know, is a rarity!
Anyway, looking forward to a speedy recovery!
At least i enjoyed myself doing it......
if i could figure out how to attach photos, I would show you

That looks like the Old Coach Road between Firle and the back-end of Seaford - one of my local favourites (one of the only local lanes  ). That injury sounds painful - hope you make a speedy full recovery!

To attach photos to your post scroll down from where you are typing and you'll see the Tinypic uploader window. Click on 'Choose file' (you don't have to sign in) and choose your photo. Then click on 'resize' and choose a sensible size like '17" screen' (not doing this normally results in massive photos that no one can see), then click on 'upload now!' button. It should then give you a link you can copy and paste straight into where you're typing. Submit your post (or use 'preview') and you should see your photo appear.

Try it and prove to us you were there! As the kids say:- Pics or it didn't happen ;)

Not wanting to put a downer on your recovery but the scaphoid seems to be a difficult bone to heal due to lack of blood supply. So get the best treatment you can.

On a separate subject. Have you noticed that Greenlanes around Hampshire are being levelled off with hardcore ?
We noticed a couple of our favourite muddy lanes are now flat like roads !
Moose seemed to like it but totally ruins it for me.
Even "Water Lane" Alton has been made "safe" for walkers.

This is what I saw when I looked down (excuse the toasty pair of comfortable carpet slippers)

and this is what the X-Ray photographer saw when he looked down.

turns out that he was ex-RE, proudly displaying his veteran badge, so took some extra shots.

Colin,
thank you very much for the tips, as you can see it worked. I have been told before, but couldn't make it happen.
