MT500 Some Assembly Required
MT500 Some Assembly Required
Needed a cheap dirt bike so i got someones MT500 failed project .
Cleaned it
Sprayed panels,engine,frame
Chucked the engine in
Linked enough stuff to run it but it wouldnt go. I also added new spark plug, air filter, oil filter, oil, battery. Fuel was blowing out the carb cuz timing was off by 1/4.
When it was running tried it round the garden. Very fun bike nearly went through the hedge. Front sprocket is 14t so nice acceleration.
Had a few issues with the build. The previous owner snap the key in the lock i had to pick it out. Electrics sucked i hate fault finding. Had gunk on the fuses so light didnt work. I wired the cut out switch wrong so the bike wouldnt cut out even with the key. Had to make a rear brake bar from a threaded m4 rod. My carb blew fuel cuz the timing was off.
Fun to make and learnt alot. My rear shock leaks so putting on a cheap ebay set then will be ready for mot. Took 7 days to paint 3 days to put together. Total cost Ă‚ÂŁ700 inc bike and delivery.

Very nice, I have a mt500 tank here without any dents, requires new paint but other than that looks ok if your looking to replace your one?

Great job SWRID3R! ...and in such a short time. Has taken me ages to work out where everything goes when something comes in bits. Well done!

Dents add to the used and dirty look. I will be adding more dents when i start crashing off road.Franc wrote:Very nice, I have a mt500 tank here without any dents, requires new paint but other than that looks ok if your looking to replace your one?

Looks good, great to see how it changed from what you had to start with.

Bike passed the mot. The headlight was hanging off when i got there but was lent the tools to fix it. Was my first proper ride and noticed oil is leaking at top of engine and the carb is overflowing.
