Had a good day in the workshop yesterday with lots of help from Will.

The brakes were first to get an overhaul..

Then fit the new Avons.. This is where we came across the first problem :(

The rim has a crack in it where it is joined at manufacture. The spokes are also loose but seized solid due to rust. The wheel bearings also need replacing. I've fitted the tyre so we can move the bike around but this wheel will need a new rim and new spokes and bearings maybe you can borrow gegs for the trip..

Image

One of the fork seals were leaking so they were next for a service.. once all the layers of paint had been chipped off all the nuts and bolts! This what was I side..

LefT leg 600ml of black tar!
Image

Right leg 300 ml of black tar!

Image

Then came the next bit of bad news! Whilst working on the rear caliper the underside of the silencer could be seen.. its paper thin and full of holes.. We can fit a stainless one if you like or maybe you could borrow one off geg.. just let me know what you'd like to do..

Image

Today will be engine day.. Ill be checking the clutch and sprag and dealing with all the obvious oil leaks and loose pulleys..

Image

Its not fallen over! I just don't know how to rotate the picture!

Here are some other intresting features!

Hope the flight from NZ is a good one Richard.. Let me know your eta with geg and your plan for exhaust and wheel...

Can't the rim be welded? Or would that be an MT fail in the UK? I see cracks like that all the time here because of the rough roads and I just have them welded, (since I can;t weld ali...yet).

Of course, then you'd stil need new spokes....

Yep the rim could well be salvaged, after all its on the original joint which must be welded some how. New spokes and powder coated hub would cost around Ă‚ÂŁ200 plus the rim repair or new rim and bearings. It takes a while for me to turn these around and I know Richard and Gaenor are keen to start there euro ride about..

On my way to the UK at, Changi airport. Going to go with a ss exhaust. Sounds like I could do with a wheel. Any chance anyone has one the Mrs has been asking why don't you get rid of that wheel out of our front room

Now running like a little sewing machine! just a few lose ends to tidy up and a new exhaust to fit!..

Image

Carb about to be stripped and ultrasoniced.. A 42 pilot jet has also been fitted as well as a new throttle cable and stainless bolt kit..

Image

Timing gear with all its oil leaks!

Image

Clutch and sprag clutch all in good order..

Image

One of the reasons for oil leak..

And the other..

Runs nice now though!

Had the pleasure of Geg yesterday and a chat with Richard on the phone.

Geg helped me fit the new exhaust and the rear wheel off his MT so that we could road test and load on the trailer. Richards rear wheel is away being rebuilt with stainless spokes and re weld the rim joint.

Should be done in a couple of weeks..

I then went on a road test and put the brakes and engine through their paces and was really pleased how she performed..

This will be a pleasure to ride through Europe and will certainly draw the crowds where ever you stop!

The new green and desert colour scheme and your rear pannier mods will improve the looks too!

See you in a couple of weeks to collect the rear wheel and front mudguard..
