Once I sorted the starting issues with mine (exhaust with too much back pressure) it starts piece of cake with a 350 battery

If it's not used for a few days it will take several cranks, but then fires away

The decompressor will make starting much easier and save the sprag
I've read on the CCM forum about the standard can being too restrictive so that might be something else for me to sort. My trouble wasn't starting the engine though, it was the amount of fuel blown out of the carb as apposed to being sucked into the engine :o . That's all sorted now though.

I've got a std CCM end can on now and it runs fine

I had a Supertrapp on before. 3 end plates was too restrictive and wouldn't let the engine fire

5 let it run, but god was it loud. In fact it was anti social so I opted for the CCM end can in the end

What is that air filter that you are using? Where can I get one? Seems like one of those would make fiddling with the carb/swapping out carbs so much easier.

It's a K&N filter for a CCM 604. Can be found on Ebay:

Watched the video i took of Minter starting my refreshed 640 on his test jig this morning. Then noticed it was taken in December 2013……. :o

Spend most of my time riding the MT's great grandad these days, a 1940 BSA WM20.

So, went to the garage where I keep it and made a quick list to remind me where I had got to. Ordered a new saddle cover from Adam so that's one bit less to sort out. I'll hopefully get it home at the weekend and start to spend some time sorting it out.

Watch this space…..

I would remind people that Stu,s been working on his Beetle for as long as I can remember, his plan was to have it fit for the classic Le mans last year but that didnt happen, its bi_annual so he,s got about another 14 months ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

This thread started in early 2010! Does Stuart get a prize for the longest rebuild ever?

Well done for never giving up on the dream though!
