This is one of those stories that never happened on a project that does not exist......
Project Phantom.....
Doing a special hybrid for a friend. A very badly beaten bike that had been heavily off roaded and was in need of major attention. The frame around the footpegs was very badly bent and the swing arm had been hit so hard the plastic thrust washers had deformed and extruded out!!
Engine is currently stripped for a rebuild and the barrel is away with Minter for the 405 conversion.
This one is going for a mix of modern and retro.

Looks fantastic, really like the classic trail styling.
Will be looking forward to seeing the finished project.
This is similar to what I had in mind for my next bike, although I was planning on trying to use a rear swing arm from a Pegaso converted to twin shock to save a bit of weight.

I liked the scrambler look that Bonnielad did on his Armstrong but wanted to get a real hybrid feel with modern electronics for the dash.
I milled out the groove to hold the bracket for the speedo and rationalised the loom at the front to reduce the connectors so all the wiring would fit inside the lamp housing. Going with FZ plastics front and rear which the cut down rack really offsets against the much shortened tail.
I will post a few more pictures up of todays work this evening. Its a bit slower progress on this as I have been busy at work and I am doing another at the same time.

I like that headlight and the mounts--where did those come from? I have been thinking of doing a similar mod on my 500, though I don't care about modernising at all, I just like a round headlight and speedometer better than the ones originally fitted to the MT.

Me too. I started getting the parts together and then remembered I have a 1970 Enfield Bullet in my shed, I couldn't get more retro than that. I like the round headlamp idea, very tidy. The lamp has side bracket mkunts so no other choice really. I killed out the top yoke to take the speedo mounting bracket and hold it in the correct position.Lardmarc wrote:Me too. I got the mudguards on today and rear lights. Pictures to follow.
