Just thought I would post a bit of an update. I managed to get a bit more done this week but will be taking a break for a few days and a visit down to Devon to see the outlaws. Its a pity your in Wales this weekend Lardmarc as I could go a breakfast at Louis tea rooms, maybe next time - you never know, I may even be down on the bike then.

So this week I got the bike stripped down to basics and took all the various parts to Jack at Oxford Fine Finishing who will blast and powder coat it.

Jack did a great job on Therapy and I cant wait to see how this one turns out. I have decided to keep this one fairly standard so its getting RAL 6003 in a satin (30%Matt) finish. It will have various stainless fittings from George, Venhill SS brake lines, SS spokes etc..

Box of electrical bits, inside the cowl looks a bit non standard with three lighting relays and lots of insulation tape etc so will have to untangle and sort that out and tidy it up.

The closest to an action photo I could get. The Dremel is a great addition to the tool box, great for getting that old bearing case off.

I made a bit more progress with the engine and hopefully it should be finished before the frame comes back.

This was supplemented by a bit of tyre removal (I have a long long way to go before I get close to Gary's speed) and the development of a new Olympic sport - Synchronized Engine Building, needles to say Gary got the gold in that as well.

However, the 'also ran' enjoyed the evening.

I think Christmas has either come early or I am about 6 weeks out of sync with my diary. Powder coated parts are now back in the workshop and the 604 was finished last night and goes on the test bed for its first run on Wednesday

New wheel bearings and tyres and a bit of upholstery done while frame has been away

And to Diane at LMS for a bunch of bits not least two new sets of caliper seals. Caliper paint from that site used and so far so good. OEM bleed arrangement replaced with easybleed nipple with internal check valve.



All the old paint finally removed from the plastics, then I have got to decide to paint them or leave them as they are. Will do a few test runs to see how they look when the weather is a bit warmer to spray outside. The B&Q own brand paint remover Dial is much better, it doesn't dry out as fast and has higher VOCs than the nitromors that is over twice the price and half as effective.



I collected the frame parts last Friday but had to wait until Sunday for funday. Having unwrapped all the bits from the powder coating, I have made a start with making sure that all the blast media is washed out and am spending time cleaning out threads and removing the remnants of adhesive backed Al tape used to protect seal/bearing surfaces. First sub assembly put together was the swing arm and side stand to test out the mkIII side stand bushes from George. These work great and I am very pleased as the side stand has virtually no play. Will sort out the shocks and front forks while the frame is pumped through with diesel by a small inline pump and filter.



the frame also got a zinc based primer powder coat, before the final top coat of RAL 6003 Satin 30% matt. This was the nearest match to the frame under the tank that hadn't been repainted or faded.

You can get a MT350 in a small car - it just has to be in bits and obviously its precious so needs a seat belt.

Cleaning out the oil tank to ensure old debris and anything from the blasting is removed. With the pump running, the long pipes allow me to periodically lift and tilt/turn upside down etc the frame. Will do this for a few hours and then change the inline filter and repeat as I don't want to grind out the new engine.



The rear shocks had the new type plastic guide tube, so rather than a circlip above and below this one has no circlips so needed a new appraoch to dismantle. Step in a milk carton, a stanley knife and small screwdriver.



The springs are powder coated, but the strut is wire brushed, cleaned and given a couple of coats of Hammerite smooth satin black as I don't want to put it in the powder coat oven at 200C as a sealed unit, neither did Jack the powder coater .


When not eating donuts or drinking tea at Sportax, some work does get done often late into the night. With Garys help we have managed to get the engine to a position that we are very pleased with and cant wait to hear what it sounds like.




Well the garage heater has been on for few hours now so it should be warm enough to go back in and do a bit more
