Paid.

Tunnel price is now £60 return but on a fixed time. Flexi is £204 return. The ferry do not care if you are late as they just stick you on the next boat.

The tunnel is pretty good at letting you on when you turn up they don't seem to stick to your booked time, Dfds ferry will let you get on one either side of your booked one at no extra cost, P&O will sting you for any ferry other than the booked one.

What would you recommend?
Is the tunnel worth the extra or is it just as much hassle?

Thanks

I've had no experience of the tunnel only gone by their web site and phoning them, bloody long wait for them to answer!! The ferry has never been a problem with the groups I've been with and have always put us on the next boat if for whatever reason we're late.

The Travelodge at Ashford is very close to Dover and has a petrol station for anyone who wants a quick top up, also there is a BP just as you enter the port. The ferry can handle groups of bikes as they are placed at the side of the ship and with 8 of us, a fairly large group.

The only advantage I can see of the tunnel is, unless they're having a fire, it's quicker. The idea was for us to have breakfast whilst on the ferry and push on once in France.
