project bandit
Hi all,
i know i've been pestering everyone with stupid questions over the last 3 months, but here's the reason....
i bought a complete pile of crap, and am trying to restore it, gary is busy mintering my engine as i type, i'm sure you've all seen the thread, i feel like an expectant father again it was pretty rogered, but he will bring her back to life.
i on the other hand have been tackling the rest of it,
here is a reminder pic of what it was before the start
so after a complete strip down, i quickly realised that i needed everything, it was either missing or broken
had to have a nasty hole in the frame rewelded
i decided not to go down the powder coating route, coz 1) this was starting to get expensive, and 2) hell i paint for a living, may have been a school boy error on the grounds of all the man hours i stuck in, would of been easier to have surcumed to the powder coating
but now some weeks on, my swinging arm is ready ,coil and cdi are in, building my air box up now, and about ready to install the new loom, now the clips that hold the loom to the oil tank part of the frame are missing but i shall be using a stick on cable tie type of clip, also check out the lovely new nuts and bolts i got from george
so it's very ongoing, and i've got a hell of a lot more work here,
thanks to everyone who has helped me with bits, and advice, if anyone has a rear light unit complete, id be happy to buy it off you, i'll keep you posted as to progress,

hi joth,
i got as much as possible shot blasted , then i treated all the metal to a kurust solution , which in my experience is brilliant, turns any rust black and it never returns, then i used a general purpose metal primer from crown believe it or not , it said it did ally as well , two coats, then two coats of military enamel, which seems to be kind of cellulose based

Re: project bandit
hi all,
picked up my engine from minters last week, but i couldn't stretch to having it powder coated whilst being rebuilt, so i was left with the 'oribble task of preparing a finished engine ,
well it wasn't as bad as i thought it would be, obviously all those little places i thought wouldn't show, suddenly did matter once the OCD kicked in ,
spent around 8 hours on the prep, ok it 's not as good as it would of been had i had it done, but i'm happy with it,
horrible init , just doesn't look right unpainted
but now
like i say , might not be perfect, but that will do me , oh yer
need new swinging arm bearings before i can continue, i was gona use my existing, but after a good clean up of the sleeve thingy, i noticed some markings, don't know if there from these bearing or historic ones, but oh well another expensive chat with diane, added to my list
