BSA WD M20 Restoration
BSA WD M20 Restoration
Thought I would start a thread of my BSA that im rebuilding.
I bought it with a lathe last year for Ă‚ÂŁ1200 but its in a bit of a state...
Engine and gearbox were already out but otherwise a complete rolling chassis with lots of spares.
Dug the engine out today to have a look. Barrel has been sent off to be checked and measured.
Bottom of the engine was full of horrid sludge so I will be stripping it down and cleaning it and blasting it.
The mag dyno will be checked to see if it needs re winding or replacing all together but fingers crossed as they can cost silly money!
Anyway more pics to follow.
ps let me know if this thread is better in "other bike chat/off topic"

Not 100% sure yet. It will probably be gloss green but it does have all the bits like pannier racks and field stand etc... will probably keep changing my mind throughout the build...

Re: BSA WD M20 Restoration
The military M20's had a screw in plug in the timing case so you can adjust the timing without having to to remove the timing cover. They also came with a spare exhaust valve and the tools to change it - you'll need this as they are very prone to burning it out, bringing you to a wheezing standstill, the one I borrowed for a summer was true to form!
British mags are EXTREMELY labour intensive to rebuild don't scrimp here as you'll end up paying twice. The magneto guys in Hailsham do a very good job and get it right. Last I heard they had a 6 month waiting list though.
