our leader Simon AKA Bunker dose dateing for the MT Armstrongs but
wasnt sure he could date this one

you will need to take a picture of the vin plate on the head stock and send it to him
he will have a look and tell you if it would be possible from the engine number and frame number as he has a vast list of bike details for those years the bike isnt elec start so may be able to tell from the engine number

nice bike

Well NO VIN PLATE fitted, Im busy looking for the frame number but as the frame has been shot blasted and powder coated gloss black Im struggling at the moment

I'd love to know where the engine number is hidden.

It may be a devil of a job to sort and end up on one of the new style ( non Q) plates
under the new registration system that was introduced in april 2009......
But I have all winter to sort it

My 89 CCM (son of your bike) doesn't have a VIN plate either just frame No. think this is normal. Frame No. is on front of headstock and will probably have the year of production in it. Engine No. is under the carb just behind one of the oil lines, they aren't stamped in deep like Jap bikes so look carefully. HTH

etc etc etc I can quote the act and action but it gets boring. The MOT do not test the speedo accuracy nor function but you must have one to be on a road! ( catch 22)

Found one today at Ă‚ÂŁ24.99 analogue in a offroad catalogue....just gotta order it now and fit it

common sense and speeding tickets dictate speedo requirements, oh as one of the boys in blue I do know just a little bit about the law............ ( till next year when I retire when I won't give a flying.........)
You don't need a speedo for an mot, however you can get done for it by the cops, you're right it's part of construction and use. You absolutely do not require one for the mot though.

I now believe my bike to be a 1985 from the CMX500*** frame number as I have found that allegedly there were only 125 CMX500 models produced ( 1985/6/7)
Frame numbers read *CMX500001* up to *CMX500125* and mine is one of the later ones
But I'm still doing the research.
I've now got a nice set of 'as new' Enduro tyres and am about to take the wheels for re adonising and respoking in nice stainless spokes

Pictures to follow as work progresses
