Rhayader meet up weekend. Riding on Saturday 5th July

Post by Godspeed » Wed Jun 18, 2014 2:25 pm

A couple of my mates were heading up to Rhayader for the weekend of the 5th July, and I thought what a great time to spend the Saturday doing a couple of fairly easy offroad routes. (They'll be on road bikes so will probably be off hooning around the local countryside)

Planning on staying at Wyeside Caravan Park (plenty of camping pitches at the moment) on Friday and Saturday night. http://www.wyesidecamping.co.uk/the-sit ... field.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Sort your own food out (someone said a great mixed grill is served at the local pub!).

Trailwise, I'm very much a beginner in this. So I will bring some maps and hope someone knows the area may turn up, otherwise it will be a case of try it and see :shock: Types of trails will be easy ones hopefully.

Anyone up for it??

Cheers

Chris

Chris. The routes I am familiar with are about 30 miles north of there. The southern Snowdonia part of mid Wales is much more beautiful than Rhayader. I'm happy to show some trails that are between the Dyfi estuary (Machynlleth) and the Mawddach estuary (Barmouth to Dolgellau). .. All around Cader Idris.
It may also be possible to get permission to use some of the trails on Cader.
Up here Rhayader is considered to be South Wales.
Cheers John.

Chris,
Unless your heart is really set on Rhayader, I would strongly recommend Cae Du campsite a few miles north of Tywyn, just as the road hits the coast .

http://www.coolcamping.co.uk/campsites/ ... /35-cae-du" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It's smack on a small cliff top looking up over the sea to the llyn peninsula, you're allowed fires, they sell lamb burgers, fantastic sunsets, quite a short ride over the bridge to Barmouth for fish and chips and they're happy to have a bunch of bikers.

Ă‚ÂŁ10 per tent per night if there's one person in it.

Cheers, John.

Thanks John, that's a really lovely looking site, though just a tad too far from Bristol.

Doesn't seem like any of my mates are coming now so happy to make it an MT only event :)

Have a look at the Trailwise website for potential routes, you can see about 5Km radius for free. join the TRF and you can see large areas. They show the byways and any restrictions.

Nice. There's a couple of good routes that have been suggested. One around Claerwen Dam and another literally up from Rhayader.

Great to have the company!! I'm planning on getting there about 7ish on Friday.
Lets hope for some great weather like today eh?? :)

I may be up for this if I can get the old pile running properly again.
