MTRC National Green Laning Day

Post by Bunker » Mon Jun 16, 2014 9:31 pm

Ive been thinking about this for a while. GLASS and LARA did run one of these until a few years back but it seems they no longer do.

Wouldnt it be nice if we, as a club, had such an event. You would get together with other local members and ride your local lanes, perhaps even making a note on a map of their condition/ difficulty etc. I know some local 4x4 clubs do this too and some take tools to repair or maintain the trails.

I dont know much about the politics with the byways but Ive found a few before which have clearly not been even walked in decades - they will eventually get shut if unused.

Thumper, would you ask your TRF guys if they have such events?

Your thoughts gents.

You don't need a parachute to skydive. You only need a parachute to skydive twice.

Simon

Will do. They're very active generally.

Just been on a 1 day training event with Herts TRF.

Out of 16 riders, 3 were on MTs. (Guy, Sally and me) Guy did exceptionally well and showed how good an MT can be against much more modern bikes.

a very good idea. Thumper and I discussed how good it would be to get a group of MTs together for some off road training. Thumper can tell you more about that...the next step would be to get out there...as Derrick, Thumper and I have been doing with Herts TRF...The training we went on (quite independently of each other) is done in various locations around the country. Quite apart from the training ...it would be good to organise a link up with TRF as you suggest (they have also arranged discounts with the trainers) :)

let me know if I can help in any way.

The training would be great but this i just about exploring the lanes in your area and recording them and their difficulty levels. I have found a few over the years that have clearly never even been walked in decades. Lets get them used.

I did run the idea of a training session by with minter for this years Wye valley, to make things a bit different this year. He was ok with the idea but we will need to have an idea of numbers who would be interested.
