Mid Wales easy offroad routes?

Post by Godspeed » Mon Jun 16, 2014 3:21 pm

Hello all,
Am getting my 500 up together and was thinking about heading Mid Wales direction for a spot of greenlaning in a months time.
I keep seeing pictures of riding lovely looking trails over the hills and wondered which ones would be good to try.
Bear in mind: I'm not an accomplished rider so easy routes would be ideal.

Thanks for suggestions........

The oldest rule in the book is DONT do them alone. Hardly any phone reception if you come a cropper! (I apologise in advance if you have no intention of riding alone ;) )

If you fancy a trip then Kawasaki Rich and HONDA ME are interested in going and we know the lanes pretty well now.

As Roey says, never green lane on your own.

I must admit, most of the time I'm on my own, I guess you take a few less risks but still know that what you are doing is risky

I've heard people talk about strata florida, but looking at OS maps, it doesn't appear to run very far as some arent BOATS? Does anyone have any updated info on that and where it starts and goes to??

Would be good to meet up and will look to see some dates....

The main issue really is what happens if you have an accident - if you're on a normal tarmac road travelling alone and you fall off and get knocked unconscious , break an ankle , get trapped with the bike on top of you etc, law of averages says someone will probably come along fairly soon and get help , but on a byeway you're more likely to fall off anyway and if you're well off the beaten track somewhere that people rarely go it could be days or weeks before someone finds you - if you're still alive by then !
A mate of mine was mountain biking a few weeks ago in a remote woodland area , crashed and broke his arm and shoulder badly - luckily he was not alone so his friend could sort him out and get him medical help - it happens.

Hi Godspeed. I live just outside Machynlleth and would be happy to ride with you some of the fabulous green lanes between the Dyfi and the Mawddach estuaries.

Some are featured in this little clip I made with Captain MT350 a while back.
