Beacons Rally 9/10 August 2014.

Post by geoff barnett » Mon May 26, 2014 10:46 am

The above is a bit of a misnomer. This rally is about racing road legal dirtbikes around beautiful Welsh forests.

It is not about standing in a field around a bonfire talking bollocks and drinking beer (though there's lots of the latter in the local pubs on the Friday and Saturday night). For more details see: http://www.wtra.co.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I enter several of these types of events each year. They are good fun and are essentially a trailbike enduro. Because they are meant for trailbikes the terrain covered is nowhere near as - horrible/impossible/make grown men cry - type, that is your lot in a full blown enduro.

Just like a proper enduro, you'll get a timecard and you have to make it to checks in the forest in a specified time, hence you have to crack on, but the pace required is fairly gentle. There are also "special tests" each lap. These are very accurately timed sections, usually several miles long, that the organisers use to work out who has won, come second, third and in my case 103rd.

Perhaps 80% of the field will be on KTMs. There will be many very fast riders entered, however there are also usually lots of beginners, and those like me that simply want to get round without breaking down or breaking a leg.

A two day event usually costs about Ă‚ÂŁ130.00 to enter. You'll also need an ACU licence, but if you dont have one a day licence can be purchased for Ă‚ÂŁ10.00.

The "regs" are not yet available. When the WTRA open the event for entry I will send a post on this Forum, to alert those of you interested, to enter.

Sadly this clashes with a twinshock MX in Devon..

I can highley recomnd these types of events, i rode the very first cambrian rally on a trusty army Armstrong - the pic in my avatar is from this event! Anyone who has been on the MT ride outs will easily get around these types of Rally event..

Be who you are and say what you feel because those that
matter don't mind and those that mind don't matter!
