Corporal Punishment as I named my impulse buy was very neat but with a lot of underlying problems. Foremost of which was the steel tank being full of debris and an internal coat of flaking paint (?!?). This was constantly causing carb jet blockages an inline fuel filter helped but it was far from great, so a plastic Acerbis tank was purchased. The steel tank was later sold to Reece as he felt he could have a crack at sorting it out. I have no love for steel tanks because they rust and they dent far too easily, so I was happy to see it go.Image

As alluded to earlier a plastic tank was purchased in lieu of the steel standard tank. ImageIt was clearly the wronk shade of green for the bike but as I had just entered the Dusk to Dawn with the intention of competing on this bike, colour matching was the least of my issues.
I quickly stripped the wheels and set about getting some proper knobblies and some run-flat mousses.ImageThe result was two very heavy but ridiculously capable wheelsImage

What tyres/mousses did you go with? I've been very happy with my Army Specials.

I'd go for something a bit more aggressive on the rear. Ive also tried mooses in trials tyres without success and had to revert to a tube half way through an event, cant see the front tyre well, but i'd go for something aggresive there too.. Good luck at the dawn till dusk. Beware of rocks and banks as one of our old members snapped his gear shaft off on the same event a few years ago!

This is a recount of the past year rebuild post race (and cracked engine)
BTW it's Jack from Cornwall, you sold me the 604 engine the SM wheels and the S/A.

Yep! I now remember! How did it go in the dawn till dusk? what happened to crack the engine?

After a bit of light modding and tinkering the bike was ready to race.ImageA HID light conversion was added as were bark busters and homemade number boards.Image
Our bike was not the only Armstrong there much to our surprise, had there not been another MT there, we would have had the oldest bike there by at least 20 years!

The race. To be brutally honest I had overestimated my abilities and underestimated the task.Image

An electric start would have helped when I stalled it half way up what I can only describe as a cliff!Image
But the Armstrong soldiered on through the night and into the small hours of the morning.Image
Alas, after one extreme wipeout the engine casing cracked

and out came the beersImage

So, Minter had a black 604 engine that looked exactly like the one I had killed, and I had a suspicious wife...
A couple of dodgy dealings later and I was the proud owner of a bike frame that didn't fit anymore. Bring in Mr Shiney and his welding talents.ImageImageImage

I took apart the suspension after the race to give it a little TLC. I noticed at this point that the MT's Marzocchis were almost identical to the ones I had just rebuilt for a Honda Transalp 650 and that by pure chance I had a set of awesome Hyperpro progressive springs kicking about that were originally destined for said Transalp.Image
A quick transplant ensued.And a 350 left stanchion was added to convert the front to disk brake.Image
ImageThe rear suspension was beyond repair so a shiney set of Hagons were added to the mix. Image
